Why I Love Guanajuato
I have worked in Los Angeles California for the last 20 years, where I focus on building relationships and building community, often with food and culture at the center of everything.
In 2015 I decided to spend 6 weeks in Mexico to strengthen my Spanish-language fluency. Close family friends recommended their home state of Guanajuato Mexico. After research, I decided to spend the time in the City of Guanajuato, which was an easy choice.
While I knew I would have great experiences, I didn’t imagine that I would fall in love with the town, the people, the culture. Since then, I visit Guanajuato every year to continue building roots and falling in love with this place that has been so good to me.
What I have learned and experienced in Guanjuato is a love and pride for Mexico, which can be understood given the war of independence from Spain began in this heart of Mexico. As an African-American woman, I found that the story of independence and freedom from colonial forces resonated with my own experience in the African Diaspora.
There is a beauty in Guanajuato that touched me deeply, and while hard to capture in words, it is easily experienced at the first step in this land. LoveGuanajuato.com is my love letter and tribute to this place. It is my goal to help other people find their own reasons to love Guanajuato.
Por qué me Encanta Guanajuato
He trabajado en Los Ángeles, California, durante los últimos 20 años, donde me he centrado en establecer relaciones y en crear una comunidad, a menudo con la comida y la cultura en el centro de todo.
En 2015, decidí pasar 6 semanas en México para fortalecer mi fluidez en el idioma español. Amigos cercanos de la familia me recomendaron que visitara su estado natal de Guanajuato, México. Después de investigar, decidí pasar el tiempo en la ciudad de Guanajuato ya que me parecía una buena opción.
Aunque sabía que tendría grandes experiencias, no me imaginé que me enamoraría de la ciudad, la gente y la cultura. Desde entonces, visito Guanajuato cada año para continuar construyendo conexiones y enamorándome de este lugar que ha sido tan bueno conmigo.
Lo que he aprendido y experimentado en Guanajuato es un amor y orgullo por México, que puede entenderse dado que la guerra de independencia de España comenzó en este corazón de México. Como mujer afroamericana, descubrí que la historia de la independencia y la libertad de las fuerzas coloniales resonó con mi propia experiencia con la Diáspora Africana.
Hay una belleza en Guanajuato que me conmovió profundamente, y aunque es difícil de captar con palabras, la experimenté fácilmente mi primera vez en esta tierra.
